FAQs

Begin by measuring the bed of your truck with the tailgate closed. Our sizing guides will help you determine which tent is compatible with your truck. Our website also displays a sizing chart for your convenience.

Our truck tents will fit over Roll-Up Tonneau Covers if the rolled-up tonneau cover is less than 6” high. Please see our Tonneau Cover Guide (in the product images) for more information.

Yes. We recommend placing the tent over the toolbox to minimize the amount of water that could enter between the box and the tent. It is also recommended to cover the corners of the toolbox to protect the tent from ripping on sharp edges. Please note that you will lose the amount of space that the toolbox occupies.

Railings will work as long as they are less than 3” tall. Roll and sports bars must be removed.

As long as the back rack does not intrude onto the rails of the truck too far, it should not impact the functionality of the tent. Please email help@napieroutdoors.com with a photo or the exact model of your back rack to determine if the rack is compatible.

No. Truck Tents will not work as long as the camper shell/cap is assembled. Napier SUV Tents are the best option as long as the height from the ground to the highest point of the cap window/door does not exceed 80”.

Yes. One person is able to set up a Napier Truck Tent, however we do recommend having assistance during the first set-up. The first set-up should take approximately 15 minutes and about 10 minutes each time thereafter. Each tent comes with set-up instructions and color-coded poles for easy assembly.

No. Driving with the tent mounted to your vehicle may cause personal injury and/or damage to your tent and truck.

Our tents already have a water-resistant coating on them. However, the coating may wear down over time and you may want to spray a water repellent coating onto the tent and rainfly after a few years of use. For additional protection and product maintenance, you may wish to use a seam sealant on your tent.

Monsoon mayhem

My sportz truck tent lived through a an hour of Az. Desert monsoon winds and rain. Broke one pole and replaced it for $15 plus shipping. After the storm I still had a place to sleep.

Broken awning pole connecter.

Even with gentle care while putting the tent together for the second time, the awning pole tension connecter broke.

Happy repeat customer - 2016 Nissan PRO-4X

Repeat customer. When we changed trucks we bought another Napier. Is it easier to set up with 2 people - yes, can 1 person do it - yes. Instructions are easy to follow and you really need to read them before setup to avoid damaging the poles. It makes camping so much easier because if your truck fits you're set. No looking for an extra space to place a tent. The tent also stays nice and clean being in the back of the truck. We have easily used this tent 25+ times and haven't had a single issue with it. Looking at updating our truck to a newer model and are very happy we can keep using this tent.

I love this tent

I love this tent.Took it on a north Vancouver Island trip and it performed really well. Even with the wet cool weather and some moisture on the inside we remained pretty dry.

Such a greatpurchase andcan'twait for more adventures!!

The Covered Wagon

Let me start by saying that I had used a BackRoads a few years back in my truck and liked the concept of being off the ground and easy to set up. I unfortunately had to get rid of my truck. I bought a small utility trailer to haul things that I could no longer haul with a truck. The 5X 8 utility trailer seemed to be a perfect fit for the Sportz Truck full bed size. I loved the spacious area that allowed me to set up a cot and stow my gear. Plenty of room to stand up. The tent is well put together with quality fabrics. My only complaint was with the small snap clips that tighten down some of the straps. They seemed very tight and hard to lock and unlock. The straps were very difficult to adjust because of the clips. I sturdier, smoother clip would make it all perfect. I know, I used it outside of the intended pick up truck config, but it worked well for me!

Great choice

Perfect fit to vehicle, well constructed. Great ventilation and no condensation in warm or cold rainy weather. It’s a game changer how the entire unit can be lifted off the vehicle in seconds if you suddenly have to drive off the campsite for extra cheesies.

This tent is amazing

I have had this tent for my Tacoma crew cab truck for 5 years. Once I learned the tricks to easy set up I never had a problem. I used a bungee net when traveling by collapsing the tent ,folding the poles and using the net to keep it safe. Yesterday I finally added a rollup bed cover, which reduced the 30 minute take down time to 5 minutes. The Tacoma has wheel wells which make it too narrow for 2 adults to sleep between. I added (3 pieces) of 3/4 plywood spanning the wheel wells, leaving a 10” storage space under the sleeping deck. I found a futon mattress that fit exactly.

Sports truck tent

The first set up was very difficult, and the instructions sewn into the storage bag are very unclear on fitment. The hint to assemble on the ground first does not help with one person set up. I WOULD SUGGEST A PRE USE SET UP.
This way it will be much easier and faster when you get to camp.
The tent appears to be well made, and of good quality.
I got the link tent also for additional room for bad weather activities.

Great a bit of a handful putting it together by myself but will be a snap now that I’ve done it. Interesting fact I have a tool box on my truck was a little concerned but the box makes a great seat. I’m very impressed with the design. I was thinking about building a frame out of PVC pipe to set it on the ground and free up the truck on long stays

I’ve been using mine quit some time now ( 8 years ) I set it up at home in my truck bed on a tarp, put an air mattress and our sleeping bags inside all ready to use, then I take out the poles and fold it into the truck bed and roll it up in the tarp behind my cab and strap it down ; ) load my bikes and hit the road perfect for quick setup and fast get away on multiple days of road tripping and mountain biking.

This is the Montreal basilica of truck tents. Big, bright, and tall. It was initially difficult to get up, but now that we know how, it should be easier in the future. We would wait to arch and secure the long gray bar at the opening until last. We feared it might snap, but it didn’t. The tent fits a Ford F-150 Lightning just right, even with a bed lining.

Great improvement over my previous Napier truck tent

Great improvement over my previous Napier truck tent. Better material with actual windows for ventilation in the tent. Arrived on time with no missing parts. Relatively easy to set up the tent in the back of my GMC truck. Thanks for a great product!

Truck camp in style…

Sets up quick with how to color coded steps. Very good quality and I can stand tall in the tent at 5’ 10”. If you own a pickup it is the only way to camp. Water proof with high quality zippers.

It DOES FIT with folded hard bed cover!!

Great, easy-to-set-up tent that MOST IMPORTANTLY FITS WITH A LEER TRIFOLD HARD BED COVER folded and NOT removed!!! … and most likely any foldable hard cover. The website states it won’t, however if you don’t hook the V-strap (one on each side of the tent towards the front of your truck) over the corner of your truck bed body, and just tighten it on the side of the bed like the other straps, it is stable and secure!! Love it!!! I’m sure Napier won’t support this method, however it fits perfectly. I just looked closely at a bunch of YouTube installation videos and thought it should work with our bed cover. If that’s your hesitation, Go ahead and buy it!!

Tent review

Was fairly easy to put together, has lots of room inside. Would be great if it had a window on the ceiling but the side window does show the sky pretty well!

Broken Pole on First Use

The concept and overall design of this tent works and could make for a great camping experience. Clear instructions and relatively easy setup. Unfortunately, the quality of the tent poles leaves something to be desired. Main entry pole broke on first use. A tent of this price point should not have this issue. Will hope that the customer service is leaves me room to upgrade this review.

Set up first time by myself in 50 minutes. I know it will be faster next time and very comfortable and I love that all four sides open for air.

New Chevy Colorado Truck Tent

Did a first assembly two days ago. Good instructions, a little worried about high tension particularly on the short green top pole. Took a bit of time for the first assembly, but looks good. Deconstruction went easily.

Great Tent!

Recently purchased the 6'6" version for our GMC Sierra. It fits great, setup is similar to any dome tent. Good design with enough headroom to stand and made from quality materials. The awning is bigger than expected, which is a nice bonus.

I had a hard time deciding between the Sportz and Backroadz and don't think you can go wrong either way. I do feel the upgraded material, headroom, and awning is worth price difference if you are trying to decide.
