This past fall I spent about 8 weeks on a road trip from Virginia to Northern California, down and around the Southwest, then across the South and back home. I camped out of my Subaru Crosstrek more than half the time using a Napier Sportz Cove tent (usually at state parks or on BLM land). I appreciate that this tent takes up minimal space when I’m packed up and on the road. I can set it up in about 10 minutes, and it gives me about a foot or so of extra space to stretch out in my small SUV. It kept out rain and when I used the guy lines, it remained stable in 15 20 mph wind gusts at Horse Thief campground on a mesa above Moab. I’ve set it up more than 20 times. The seams are starting to show a little wear, but it’s still holding up and for the price point, it’s been an outstanding value!

I’ve only used mine once (I have the small version) but it was fairly easy to put up (after a bit of fluffing around). Overall I’m glad that I have purchased it as it makes my Skoda Octavia wagon combi less of a coffin to sleep in. The roof in this car is low which makes me claustrophobic. When the Napier is attached the back part of the car is high enough for me to sit up which is a lot better.
The Sportz Cove was a bit expensive compared to other options (as it is from the US). There are other options that are made in China which are a lot cheaper but they dont look as well made and dont seem to fit as tightly, which would be irritating in windy conditions.
A limitation will be making sure that the back of the car is clean dust free before attaching the Napier Sportz Cove, so I will have to carry a brush at least and clean down the car before attaching the car tent. So far Im happy with it.
The photo was taken at the Cotter Camping Ground near Canberra.

We love the additional space and the access to the back of the car. Great product. The directions for attaching around the tire were not exactly as described because it could not be accomplished as described. Nonetheless, we love this.

Will this work with a jeep with a soft top? Ie something that does NOT have a hatch door? Or is the hatch necessary to maintain the structure?
Thanks

Two years ownership and loving it! (Small size Sportzcove)
It’s been two years now and truly enjoy the features of this little hatch tent attachment. It fits and works great on my 2015 Audi Allroad (wagon). I’ve received many compliments and inquiries where to get them from my posts on my micro car camping adventures! Stylish I must say especially with the awning extended. Although after many use, I’ve experienced a mishap with the included awning pole (snapped and tore part of the section where the pole is inserted) gladly the warranty covered the damage and Napier was kind to send me a new set! I highly recommend this for solo car campers (small hatch, wagon or CUV). And yes, this also fits our 2018 Hyundai Tucson! IF there was anything I’d change with this product perhaps a better awning pole? (Although it can be replaced with a third party product I suppose). How about adding an extension awning that can offer more shade?
(Yes we also have the BackRoadz SUV tent but it’s a bit too big for my car ).
Thank You Napier!May 17, 2023 -
